Public tips help police recover van used in Markham kidnapping

York Regional Police are asking the public to help identify the suspects in Saturday's kidnapping of 22- year-old Wanzhen Lu from an underground condo parking garage in Markham

Thanks to members of the public and media, York Regional Police have recovered the vehicle involved in the kidnapping of 22- year-old Wanzhen Lu. Investigators continue to appeal to the public for any information on his whereabouts.

Overnight on Sunday, March 24, 2019, investigators received tips from the public that led them to a location in the City of Toronto where the vehicle used in the kidnapping was located. The vehicle was not occupied at the time. Investigators will not be releasing further details on where the vehicle was located.

Police continue to be concerned for the well-being of the victim. The suspects are advised to seek legal counsel and contact police.

On Saturday, March 23, 2019, shortly before 6 p.m., the victim and his friend were in an underground parking garage at a condominium building located at 15 Water Walk Drive, which is in the area of Highway 7 and Birchmount Road.

Three men, one of whom was armed with a conductive energy weapon, exited a van and grabbed the victim. The victim was resisting and was shocked by the suspects. The suspects forced the victim into the van and fled.

Anyone with information is asked to contact York Regional Police Major Crimes Bureau immediately at 1-866-876-5423, ext. 7865. If you spot the suspects do not approach them, call 9-1-1 immediately.
