NEWS RELEASE

BARRIE POLICE SERVICE

*************************
The Barrie Police Fraud Unit recently received video surveillance and is seeking the public’s assistance to identify a suspect wanted for fraud.

In October of 2016, Halton Police Service received a report from a Guelph resident with concerns that fraudulent transactions had occurred on his personal TD Bank account in the Cities of Barrie and Vaughn.

The investigation was turned over to the Barrie Police Service after several transactions had taken place at a Barrie TD Bank branch.

The investigation determined the victim’s identity had been compromised, which allowed the suspect to assume the victim’s identity effortlessly.  As a result the suspect had the ability to produce several pieces of identification in the victim’s name.

Aside from making several withdraws in Barrie, the suspect attempted to cash a $25,000 cheque at a TD Bank in Vaughn. The suspect was denied the transaction and fled the bank. The investigation has become multi-jurisdictional and is continuing.

Investigators have retrieved a picture of the suspect and are requesting anyone with information to contact Detective Constable Parliament of the Barrie Police Fraud Unit at 705-725-7025, ext. 2938, [email protected] or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS or leave an anonymous tip online at www.tipsubmit.com.
