Police are still investigating a suspicious package found in a Collingwood home that warranted a call to the OPP explosive disposal unit.

Const. Martin Hachey told CollingwoodToday the investigation is ongoing and could not confirm whether the package was a bomb.

The suspicious package was found during a separate investigation led by Peel Regional Police and with assistance from Collingwood OPP on June 26 at a residence in the Creekside subdivision on Davis Street.

The discovery prompted police to call the OPP’s explosive disposal unit and evacuate nearby homes.

Hachey said it could be a while before the results of the investigation into the suspicious package are reported due to “ongoing COVID-19 staffing restrictions within government agencies.”

A media spokesperson for Peel Regional Police said she had no information about the suspicious package and directed questions to the OPP. She said the investigation that involved the warrant for the Collingwood home is also still ongoing and had nothing further to report on it.
