Police seize a whack of African heroin, and a whack of Canadian cash

A joint drug investigation involving officers from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau – Central Drug Enforcement Unit and Barrie Police Service Street Crime Unit with the assistance of Canadian Border Services Agency resulted in the seizure of 518 grams of heroin.

On the Wednesday, December 30 2015, officers arrested a male after a short foot chase in the area of Yonge Street and Huronia Road, in the City of Barrie. 

The accused male was in possession of a package containing heroin which had been imported from a country in Central Africa. 

Following the arrest, officers attended a residence located in the south end of Barrie to execute a Controlled Drug and Substance Act search warrant.

The warrant led to the subsequent seizure of a large quantity of Canadian currency.

The 518 gram seizure has a potential street value of $181 000.00 Canadian dollars.

The male is charged with:

  • Importation of a Schedule 1 Substance (heroin)
  • Possession of a Schedule 1 Substance (heroin) for the Purpose of Trafficking
  • Possession of a Schedule 1 Substance (heroin) contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada. 

The identity of the suspect is still being confirmed as he was in possession of a number of identifications.

He was held for bail court this morning in Barrie.
