Police seek video following Georgian Drive rollover that claimed teen's life

'Our investigation remains active and ongoing, and appeals such as this will aid significantly in the investigation,' says police official

Police investigators are asking anyone with footage that captures Georgian Drive on Wednesday, Jan. 29, between 8:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m., to contact them, because it could shed more light on what led to a fatal rollover that killed a Barrie teen.

On Jan. 29 at 9:10 p.m., police were called to a serious rollover crash in the city’s north end, near the Georgian Drive and Duckworth Street intersection.

The male driver and the female passenger, both 17 years old, were rushed to nearby Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre.

Paige Ferreira, who was the passenger in the vehicle, was pronounced dead at hospital, while the driver suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Ferreira’s funeral was held Tuesday, Feb. 4.

Barrie police communications co-ordinator Peter Leon told BarrieToday that involving the public is crucial step.

“Our investigation remains active and ongoing, and appeals such as this will aid significantly in the investigation,” Leon said.

“We are being thorough, detailed and the need for accuracy is what investigations like this require in order to fully understand what transpired," he added.

Police have determined that the westbound car lost control as it entered the curve in the road, just west of the driveway to Georgian College.

The vehicle left the roadway after mounting a snow bank on the north side, struck a large directional road sign, rolled numerous times and came to rest in an open, snow-covered area between Georgian Drive and Highway 400.

Anyone who may have footage of vehicles travelling on the road are asked to email [email protected] or call 705-725-7025, ext. 2912.
