Police seek suspects in attempted tractor-trailer theft

They were captured on surveillance video at a King Street business

Barrie Police are searching for two men who attempted to steal tractor trailer trucks from two different locations in the same night.

On Thursday, Oct. 11 at approximately 4 a.m., the two suspects attempted to steal a vehicle from a business on Commerce Park Drive, however, were unsuccessful, and left the area at approximately 4:30 a.m.

At approximately 5 a.m., two suspects, who are believed to be the same men, were captured on surveillance video at a King Street business, again attempting to steal a tractor-trailer truck.

This time the suspects were moderately more successful and were able to remove the trailer and drive the vehicle away. However, using the vehicle’s GPS system, the truck was located abandoned a short distance away, still on King Street. The vehicle’s dashboard had been damaged, in what was believed to be an unsuccessful attempt to remove the GPS tracker.

The suspects are described as:

Suspect 1:
    •    Male, white
    •    5’8” - 6’2” tall
    •    Wearing a baseball hat, a grey and white checkered shirt, with a bandana covering his face

Suspect 2:
    •    Male, white
    •    5’10” – 6’4” tall
    •    Wearing an orange/brown-coloured top, white shoes with a bandana covering his face

Suspects’ vehicle:
    •    Black, four-door, soft-top Jeep
    •    Silver front grill
    •    Silver door handles
    •    Orange spotlight on top of the roof
