Police seek suspect in attempted robbery (update: arrest made)

Jan. 5 update

Barrie Police received various tips from the community ultimately identifying the male responsible for the offence.  

A warrant was executed at the suspects residence on Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2016 and the male was arrested as well as the weapon believed to be used in the offence was seized.  

A 25-year-old Barrie male has been charged with:

  • Robbery
  • Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose

The male was held at the Barrie Police Service for a bail hearing Thursday morning.

Barrie Police are currently investigating a robbery that took place on Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2016 at 6 p.m. and have now obtained surveillance images.

The suspect arrived at the XTR Gas Station located at 440 Essa Road, in the City of Barrie, riding a dark coloured mountain bike from just south of the store.  

He entered the store and threatened the clerk demanding money. When the clerk advised he did not have access to the money the suspect retreated, jumping back on his bicycle and heading south on Essa Road. 

Description:

  • Male, white
  • 35 to 40-years-old
  • 5'8"-5'9", 230lbs-250lbs
  • Prescription glasses & walks with a limp
  • Thick brown beard
  • Wearing dark toque, dark coat and light coloured pants
  • Carrying a white cloth shopping bag
