Police say high-tech shoplifters communicated with ear pieces

INNISFIL - Over the weekend South Simcoe Police were called to Tanger Outlet Mall for reports of shoplifting.

On Saturday, Feb. 25, 2017, around 4 p.m., three males entered the Ralph Lauren Polo store communicating with each other through ear pieces, distracting staff members and then removing 44 items worth over $1,700, concealing them in shopping bags.

The store's loss prevention were contacted and police were made aware that a similar report was made to York Regional Police from a mall in Vaughan. Through investigation, York Regional Police were able to arrest one of the males responsible for the Theft and recover some stolen goods.

On Sunday, Feb. 26, 2017, South Simcoe Police were called back to the Tanger Outlet Mall for a report of theft of sunglasses. A man and a women entered the Sunglass Hut separately, both trying on several pairs of sunglasses.

The store employee did witness the man place a pair inside his jacket pocket. Shortly after the couple left the store together, the store employee noticed at least two more items were taken without paying. The total loss is estimated at $900 - $1,200.

Suspect #1: male, black, approximately 30 years of age, 6 foot tall, clean shaven, black short hair, wearing a grey toque, black leather coat with dark blue jeans and black shoes.

Suspect #2: female, White, wavy blond hair, wearing a black toque, a long black winter coat, black and white striped leggings and winter boots. She was carrying an Adidas bag and a large black purse.
