An ongoing firearms investigation over the past few days has now seen a police presence in at least two different areas of the city.

On Sunday, with assistance from uniform officers and tactical support unit members as well as Ontario Provincial Police, executed a search warrant at a home on Edgehill Drive. Officers could be seen removing evidence from the home.

On Monday night, police attended a residence on Queen Street where another search warrant was executed and additional evidence was seized.

A portion of Queen Street was closed briefly to allow for this phase of the investigation to be safely conducted, according to Barrie police.

“The complexity of this investigation is requiring the Barrie Police Service to utilize various resources and investigative techniques in the interest of public safety and as a result, details that can be shared with the community are limited at this time," city police said in a news release Tuesday afternoon.

Police called the investigation isolated and ongoing as detectives analyze all of the seized evidence.

Police also say they are aware of comments being expressed by concerned community members, but wanted to assure the public that “their safety and the safety of those associated with this investigation remains our paramount focus.”
