Police have released the name of a Ramara Township man who died in a plane crash Monday.

Jeff Mavor, 44, was piloting a Cessna float plane Monday morning when it crashed in Upper Raft Lake in Lake of Bays Township. Six passengers survived and were taken to hospital.

“The family is reeling, obviously,” said a friend of the family, who didn’t want her name used.

The family members are active in their church and volunteer in the community, she said, describing them as “fantastic people” who are “community minded.”

“They’ll have a lot of support,” she said.

The OPP and the Transportation Safety Board of Canada are still investigating the crash. On Wednesday morning, the Transportation Safety Board said it was still waiting to access the plane.
