Barrie police are investigating the theft of a 1,000-pound piece of equipment from a local construction site.
Officers responded Tuesday to a construction site at Mapleview and Madelaine drives for the report of a 28-inch Wacker diesel reversible plate tamper valued at more than $20,000 that had been stolen.
Police believe it was stolen sometime between May 31 and June 1 from the area of Madelaine Drive and Copperhill Heights.
“Additionally, given the size and weight of the tamper, a piece of equipment capable of lifting along with a truck or trailer would have been required and likely multiple persons would have been necessary to carry out the theft,” police stated in a news release.
Two other tampers were stolen from the same site and reported to police on May 29. They were also valued at $20,000 and were probably stolen between May 25 and 29.
