STAYNER – On Friday, Oct. 19, South Simcoe Police Service officers took part in a four-day, joint RIDE initiative with a number of policing partners.

As officers conducted spot checks at a location outside Stayner, a 23-year-old Everett man drove into the RIDE program with a radar detector affixed to his windshield. The device was seized and a provincial offences notice was issued for driving a motor vehicle with a speed-measuring warning device.

A four-day collaborative RIDE blitz was launched on Oct. 17 to coincide with the legalization of cannabis. Officers from South Simcoe Police, the OPP, Barrie Police, Rama Police and CFB Borden teamed up to keep our roads safe and to educate the public that driving high is impaired driving. By working together, police have managed to lay a number of charges, including impaired driving by drug and alcohol. We are all committed to road safety and encourage our citizens to work with us by obeying traffic laws.
