Police charge 78-year-old man in Collingwood murder

COLLINGWOOD - Members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Collingwood and The Blue Mountains Detachment Crime Unit under the direction of Detective Staff Sergeant Paul Rosato of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) have arrested and charged a male in relation to a suspicious death which took place in Collingwood in early October.

On Oct. 4, 2017, OPP officers attended a residence on Trott Boulevard in the Town of Collingwood where 73-year-old Donna Walc of Collingwood was found deceased.

On Dec. 22, 2017 the investigation led to the arrest of 78-year-old Richard Preston of Collingwood.

Preston has been charged with second degree murder contrary to section 235(1) of the Criminal Code and has been remanded into custody. He will appear for a bail hearing before the Ontario Court of Justice in Barrie on Jan. 12, 2018. 

Due to a court imposed publication ban, no further details will be released pertaining to this investigation.
