Over 30 tickets handed out by Barrie police in traffic 'hot spots'

'We noticed an increase in complaints in these areas and have been monitoring them for a few days now,' says city police official

Barrie police have been monitoring some troublesome traffic areas over the last few days and have hopefully curbed some people from reckless driving.

The “hot spots” were pointed out by concerned residents who had seen an increase in speeding and other infractions.

More than 30 tickets, mostly for speeding, were handed out over the last few days in the areas of Ardagh Road, Ferndale Drive, Hurst Drive, Essa Road, Dunlop Street, Bradford Street, Mapleview Drive East, and Yonge Street.

Barrie police communications co-ordinator Peter Leon told BarrieToday it was through comments on social media that alerted them to checking out those areas.

“We noticed an increase in complaints in these areas and have been monitoring them for a few days now,” said Leon. “As we speak, I am seeing some new spots being mentioned on social media and making note.”

While the tickets issued were not part of an official campaign or blitz, Leon said the enforcement is part of the job.

“It's part of every officer's job when not on a call for service,” he said. “It is active and ongoing and the platoon involved is on their second day shift.”
