OPP search for missing Wasaga Beach man 'discontinued'

The investigation is still ongoing, and Richard Kocik is still missing

WASAGA BEACH – On July 7, 2020, at 6:51 a.m., members of the Huronia West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a missing person from an address on George Avenue, in the Town of Wasaga Beach. 

The male was identified as Richard Kocik, 54 years of age, of Wasaga Beach, Ontario. Richard was last seen by his family at approximately 11 p.m., on the evening of July 6, 2020. It is believed that he left the residence on foot, and a clothing description could not be determined. Richard is described as:   

  • 5'11" tall  
  • medium build  
  • goatee with mustache  
  • shoulder-length salt-and-pepper coloured hair  
  • footprint tattoo on his left arm, a heart tattoo on his left chest, and a family crest tattoo on his left shoulder  

OPP Aviation Services, Central Region Emergency Response Team (ERT), Central Region Canine (K9), and OPP Underwater Search and Recovery Unit (USRU) had been in the area since July 7, on foot, ATV, in boats, and in the air. 

Resources have cleared the area and the search has been discontinued. Richard remains missing at this time. The investigation will remain open, and continue under the direction of the Huronia West Crime Unit.
