OPP respond to report of ATV crashing into Beer Store

Turns out driver had not crashed into the Beer Store but had been refused service by staff

SEVERN TOWNSHIP - On Sept. 17, 2018 at 2:44 p.m., officers on patrol from the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were dispatched to a report of a male driver on an ATV who had crashed into the Coldwater Beer Store.

Attending officers located an ATV beside the Beer Store with a male driver who had not crashed into the Beer Store but had been refused service at the Beer Store by staff. Officers spoke with the male driver and entered into a drinking and driving investigation resulting in Edmund Engel, 29 years of age, of Severn Township being charged with the following offences.

  • Having care or control of a motor vehicle while ability impaired - motor vehicle (alcohol and drug) contrary to section 253 (1) (a) of the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Having care or control of a motor vehicle with more than 80 mgs. of alcohol in blood contrary to section 253 (1) (b) of the Criminal Code of Canada

His vehicle has been impounded for seven days and his driver's licence has been suspended for 90 days under the administrative drivers licence suspension (ADLS). He was released from police custody on a recognizance to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Midland on Sept. 27, 2018.
