On Thursday, April 4, 2019, members of the Nottawsasaga Detachment, Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), were assisted with enforcement duties, by the Aviation Services Unit of the OPP, regarding vehicles passing stopped school buses.

Numerous complaints have been received regarding motorists disobeying the law regarding stopped school buses with stop lights activated. Passing a stopped school bus with lights activated creates a very unsafe condition for students who are either being picked up or getting off the bus.

One of the OPP helicopters was in service this morning in the Township of Essa, to assist with enforcing these laws. As a result, five charges were laid under the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario. The fine for this offence is $490 dollars, plus six demerit points.

Please obey stopped school buses for the safety of everyone.
