Barrie woman killed in New Tecumseth crash; SIU investigating

Bradford man charged with dangerous operation causing death following Monday night's two-vehicle collision

NEW TECUMSETH - At approximately 11:40 p.m., on Monday, Sept. 16, 2019, a member of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Nottawasaga Detachment came upon a collision scene in the area of Fifth Line and Sideroad 20 in the Town of New Tecumseth.

Police began to follow a black sedan on Line 6 onto Sideroad 20. After losing sight of the vehicle, the officer came upon a collision at the intersection of Fifth Line and Sideroad 20 involving the black sedan and a white sedan.

The vehicles came to rest in south-east ditch of the intersection. Occupants from both vehicles suffered injuries and the assistance of Emergency Medical Services (EMS) was requested.

As a result of the investigation, Ryan Buckley, age 23, of Bradford West Gwilliumbury, Ont., was arrested and charged with:

  • Dangerous operation causing death
  • Failing to comply with a probation order

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Bradford on Oct. 24, 2019. He suffered non-life-threatening injuries as a result of the crash.

Both the driver and passenger of the white sedan were transported to an area hospital by Georgian Ambulance.

The 36-year-old passenger, from Barrie, in the white sedan later succumbed to her injuries.

The driver of the white vehicle received non-life-threatening injuries.

The OPP has notified the province's Special Investigations Unit (SIU) and they have invoked their mandate. As a result, the OPP will not be able to provide any further information. Any inquiries should be directed to SIU Communications at 1-800-787-8529.
