INNISFIL, ON - Traffic Unit Officers conducted proactive patrols on our new All Terrain Vehicles (ATV) on the weekend. Officers advise that ice on Lake Simcoe is 12 inches thick and warn against driving on it in a motor vehicle because they are too heavy. We are urging caution due to varying ice depths and sections of instability.

On Saturday, there were over 150 ice huts on the ice and no violations were reported. Officers also conducted a RIDE check at 9th Line and 25th Sideroad where citizens were coming on and off the ice. During this time officers stopped and spoke with 15 people and no violations were found.

The area covered on Saturday was from the shoreline of Lake Simcoe from Alcona to Big Bay Point including ice huts up to .5 km off shore. Officers spoke with more than 100 citizens, conducted five vehicle stops. No charges were laid.
