Officers tase 80-year-old man during arrest in Alliston

NEW  TECUMSETH – The Nottawasaga Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has laid charges in relation to an assault that took place over the weekend.  

On Friday, May 15, 2020, at approximately 4:38 p.m., officers responded to an assault in progress at the Liquor Control Board of Ontario (LCBO) in Alliston and observed the accused assaulting a store security guard. The accused resisted arrest, but officers were able to use a conducted energy weapon to gain control of the accused, who was taken into custody.  

The accused was then transported to a local hospital for medical assessment and released without injury.  

As a result of the investigation, John Rhodes, 80-years-old, from Alliston, has been charged with:   

  • Assault Contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada S. 266  
  • Resist Peace Officer Contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada S. 129(a)

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Bradford on June 25, 2020.
