Between Apr. 27 and May 5, 2017, members of Nottawasaga OPP Detachment conducted a targeted Street Sweep enforcement project which resulted in 26 arrests, and over 70 criminal charges. The Detachment crime suppression initiative, focused on crime abatement, drug trafficking, suspended/prohibited drivers, youth crime and executing arrest warrants. The success of the Street Sweep was due to a coordinated, collaborative Detachment partnership involving the Nottawasaga Community Street Crime Unit, Regional Support Team, Emergency Response Team, High School Resource Officers and Uniform members.
A number of the arrested parties were held for bail hearings and several were released with a Promise to Appear at a future court date.
As recognized by Nottawasaga OPP Detachment Commander, Inspector Steve CLEGG, “Initiatives such as this demonstrate the OPP's commitment to ensuring we continue to keep our local communities safe by holding those persons involved in illegal activity accountable for their actions."
