Markham man, 23, charged in quadruple homicide

Investigators with the York Regional Police Homicide Unit have charged a 23-year-old man and continue to seek witnesses following the murder of four people at a residence in the City of Markham. 

On Sunday, July 28, 2019, shortly before 3 p.m., York Regional Police were called to a residence on Castlemore Avenue, just east of Mingay Avenue, for a report that multiple people had possibly been injured. When officers arrived, they made contact with a man at the front door who was taken into custody. A further search of the residence found four people, all of whom were deceased. 

The identities of the deceased will be confirmed by the Coroner through postmortem examinations. Investigators have confirmed that the deceased are three adult women and one adult man. 

Investigators have charged the 23-year-old man who was taken into custody at the scene. 

Charged:

  • Menhaz Zaman, 23, City of Markham 

Charges:

  • First degree murder x4 

Mr. Zaman is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Newmarket on Monday, July 29, 2019. 

Investigators are appealing to anyone who may have seen or heard anything in the area to please come forward.
