A man charged in the violent and fatal mugging of an elderly Collingwood woman in 2019 is scheduled to be back in court next week as his case continues to proceed through the judicial system.

Caleb Burgler was initially charged with robbery and aggravated assault, and later with second-degree murder related to the death of 86-year-old Collingwood resident Marion Fenwick.

On Sept. 14, 2019, police say Marion Fenwick, who stood four-foot-10, was walking on Market Lane in Collingwood when she was assaulted and knocked to the ground by a man riding a bike. The suspect stole her purse and fled.

Fenwick later died in hospital of complications due to the injuries she sustained in the attack.

At the time of his arrest in 2019, Burgler was 30 years old.

Fenwick was mourned by the community. Friends and family set up a vigil on Market Lane, leaving flowers and candles on the corner in her memory.

Burgler is due back in Barrie court on March 16.

None of the allegations against Burgler have been tested in court.
