Man suffers life-threatening injuries in downtown stabbing (22 photos)

Police cordoned off Dunlop Street West between Bayfield Street and Maple Avenue

A male suffered life-threatening injuries following an early morning stabbing on Dunlop Street in downtown Barrie, Saturday.

City police cordoned off one block of Dunlop Street West, between Bayfield Street and Maple Avenue, for several hours while officers investigated.

Forensic officers were focused on an alcove area between 15 and 19 Dunlop St. W., where they were dusting for fingerprints, taking photographs and collecting evidence.

Several evidence markers also dotted the street where officers also used chalk to mark the roadway, west of the Five Points.

Barrie police communications co-ordinator Jennett Mays told BarrieToday that officers responded to the scene around 3 a.m., Saturday.

Mays said the victim had been involved in an altercation with another person.

"The victim has since been airlifted to a Toronto-area trauma centre, suffering from an injury that is believed to have been caused by an edged weapon," she said.

The victim's age has not been released and police have not said whether any arrests have been made.

BarrieToday canvassed the area, but no one reported seeing or hearing anything in relation to the incident.

BarrieToday will have more on this story as information becomes available.
