Loaded gun, thousands of dollars in drugs seized in traffic stop

Estimated street value of the drugs seized in Midland is more than $30,000; Two Hamilton-area men face long list of charges

Uniform members of the Southern Georgian Bay detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), at 12:22 p.m. April 5, 2020, initiated a vehicle stop on Yonge Street in the Town of Midland.

The vehicle entered a business mall parking lot at the intersection of Seventh Avenue and Yonge Street and officers conducted an investigation of the driver and passenger.

Assisted by members of the OPP Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) attached to the Southern Georgian Bay OPP detachment, officers proceeded to arrest and transport the two occupants of the vehicle to Southern Georgian Bay Detachment for further investigation.

Officers efforts conducting a further investigation netted the a fully loaded semi-automatic handgun along with a quantity of street drugs as follows: $14,950 of heroin, $12,900 of fentanyl, and $2,900 of cocaine.

Charged in connection with this investigation is Lual Ngong, 24 years, of Stoney Creek, with the following offences: 

  • Possession of Prohibited device or ammunition for Dangerous Purpose  
  • Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of Weapon 
  • Unauthorized Poss of a Firearm  
  • Possession of Prohibited or Restricted Firearm/ammunition  
  • Occupant of motor vehicle knowing there was prohibited or restricted weapon  
  • Possession Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000 - in Canada 
  • Fail to Comply with Recognizance (2 counts)

Contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada 

  • Poss of a Schedule IV substance for the Purpose of Trafficking  
  • Poss of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking - Cocaine  
  • Poss of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking - Heroin  
  • Poss of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking-Opioid (other than heroin)

Contrary to the Controlled Drug and Substances Act

Also charged is Malek Cep, 23 years, of Hamilton, with the following offences:

  • Poss of Firearm or Ammunition contrary to Prohibition Order  
  • Possession of Prohibited device or ammunition for Dangerous Purpose  
  • Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of Weapon 
  • Unauthorized Poss of a Firearm  
  • Occupant of motor vehicle knowing there was prohibited or restricted weapon  
  • Possession Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000 - in Canada  
  • Possession of Prohibited or Restricted Firearm/ammunition 
  • Fail to Comply with Recognizance (2 counts)

  • Poss of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking - Cocaine

Contrary to the Controlled Drug and Substances Act

Both accused persons remain in custody to appear before bail court and will appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Midland at a future date.
