Late-night graffiti leads to Essa man facing charges

INNISFIL - A 30-year-old Essa man is charged with mischief after a vandal was caught in the act of tagging a grocery store with spray paint.

On Thursday, Aug. 9, 2019 around 1:30 a.m., South Simcoe Police Service officers were called to the back of a grocery store on Queen Street in Cookstown for a report of man spray painting graffiti on the building.

When officers arrived on scene, they located a suspect and arrested him for mischief under $5,000. A 30-year-old Essa man was charged and released with a future court date.

Graffiti is not a victimless crime and affects all residents. It reduces property values and erodes the appearance of neighbourhoods. When any type of graffiti is placed on public or private property without permission it is considered an act of vandalism and is against the law. Call us if you see someone committing this crime.
