Judge orders Innisfil man to stand trial in fentanyl overdose death

A Barrie judge has ruled that an Innisfil man will stand trial on five charges, including manslaughter, relating to the fentanyl overdose death of Shawn Kelly.

Fifty-five-year-old Tahir Ali was committed to trial on all counts at Barrie court on Wednesday, April 24, 2019:
    •    two counts possession of fentanyl for the purpose of trafficking
    •    two counts trafficking fentanyl
    •    manslaughter

A trial date has not been set.

The charges relate to the overdose death of 23-year-old Kelly who was found deceased in his Innisfil home on April 10, 2017. Toxicology results confirmed he died of an overdose of fentanyl and heroin.

A 25-year-old Innisfil man was recently sentenced in connection with the same case.
