INNISFIL - A 35-year-old Innisfil man faces numerous charges including stunt driving, careless driving and distracted driving following a traffic stop in Alcona.

On April 1, 2019 at 10:50 a.m., a South Simcoe Police Service officer observed a motor vehicle travelling northbound on Jans Boulevard with the driver using a hand held communication device.

The officer attempted a traffic stop but the vehicle turned down another street and accelerated at a high rate of speed through a residential area. A speed measurement was obtained of 106 km/h in a posted 50 km/h zone. Police eventually conducted a traffic stop and the driver was arrested.

A 35-year-old Innisfil man is charged with the following:

  • Stunt driving
  • Speeding 106/50
  • Careless driving
  • Fail to stop on right for emergency vehicle
  • Use plate not attached for vehicle
  • Drive – Hand-held communication device
  • Class G1 licence licence holder – unaccompanied by a qualified driver
  • Drive motor vehicle – not equipped with ignition interlock device
  • Drive motor vehicle – no validation on plate
  • Fail to surrender permit for motor vehicle
  • Fail to have insurance card

The vehicle was impounded for 45 days. The man’s licence was suspended for seven days.

Distracted driving and speed are contributing factors to serious collisions and fatalities.

A driver using a phone is four times more likely to crash than a driver focusing on the road. Officers are committed to keeping a watchful eye out for drivers who continue to take risks that jeopardize the safety of our communities.
