Woman charged with impaired after van strikes pole on Lakeshore

A Barrie woman has been charged with impaired driving after her vehicle struck a pole near the city waterfront early this morning. 

Barrie police responded to the intersection of Lakeshore Drive and Victoria Street shortly after midnight, Jan. 12, for a crash. 

Upon arrival at the scene, police say the driver of the passenger van struck a light post while travelling northbound on Lakeshore.

The van came to rest on top of a concrete median, approximately 50 metres north of the pole that had been struck, according to police.

Police say the driver of the vehicle was uninjured driver.

A 36-year-old Barrie woman was arrested and charged with impaired driving. She was transported to Barrie police headquarters on Fairview Road where the investigation continued and concluded with her being formally charged. 

The driver was released from custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice located in Barrie on Jan. 25, 2023.

Temporary repairs were made to the downed traffic light pole by city workers once police completed the on-scene collision investigation.
