Two seniors were treated in hospital after a passing citizen helped rescue them from their burning home in Bradford.

On Saturday, Nov. 2, 2019 around 7 p.m., South Simcoe Police Service officers were dispatched to a home on Canal Road for a report of a residential structure fire, with two people stuck inside.

Police arrived on scene and learned that the two people who had been trapped inside were rescued by a passing motorist.

The Good Samaritan first got the 84-year-old homeowner out before entering the residence a second time with the senior to rescue the man's 87-year-old wife.

The couple was assessed by County of Simcoe Paramedics and transported to hospital for treatment due to heavy smoke in the home.

The fire was extinguished by Bradford West Gwillimbury Fire and Emergency Services and is not considered to be suspicious.

We would like to acknowledge the heroic actions of the passing motorist who not only stopped, but stepped up to rescue these homeowners under dangerous circumstances. Thank you for your brave actions that truly made a difference.
