INNISFIL - On Tuesday June 18, 2019 at 6:55 a.m., a South Simcoe Traffic officer was conducting radar enforcement on Innisfil Beach Road when he measured a vehicle travelling at 117 km/h in the posted 80 km/h zone.

The officer stopped the vehicle and spoke to the driver, who was driving with a novice and suspended driver's licence.

The driver, a 36-year-old Innisfil man, smelled of cannabis marijuana and admitted he had smoked the previous night. The officer tested the man's saliva at the roadside on Approved Drug Screening Equipment (ADSE) and found the man was above zero for a novice driver.

The man was charged with the following offences:

  • Speeding 117/80
  • Drive while under suspension G1 licence unaccompanied by qualified driver
  • Fail to surrender permit
  • Fail to surrender insurance card
  • Novice driver - presence of a drug

A novice driver must register zero alcohol and drug while operating a motor vehicle.

The man now faces a further licence suspension as he is violating a condition of his G1 licence.
