Theft of motor vehicle Barrie Police investigated a vehicle parked unoccupied with its emergency flashers on in the area of Ross Street and Sophia Street at approximately 1:44 a.m.

Barrie Police investigated a vehicle parked unoccupied with its emergency flashers on in the area of Ross Street and Sophia Street at approximately 1:44 a.m. The investigating officer observed that the steering column had been compromised. Follow up with the registered owner determined that the vehicle was indeed stolen by a suspect known to the registered owner.  The suspect, a Barrie man was located in the Couter St. area and arrested without incident.

As a result of the investigation, the Accused was charged with 1 count of theft under $5,000, 2 counts of Failing to Comply with Recognizance and 1 count of breach his probation.

The accused was held pending a bail hearing. The vehicle was siezed and towed until it could be retrieved by the owner.
