Fatal crash closes Hwy. 26 at Strongville Road

Update: The highway was re-opened around 3 a.m., but the investigation continues.

SPRINGWATER, ON - Members of the Huronia West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and emergency crews were called to assist at a collision at approximately 8:40 p.m. on Highway 26 and Strongville Road in Springwater Township.

A motor vehicle was travelling on Highway 26 when it collided head-on with a crane truck. 

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. 

The deceased driver has been identified as James Veley, 44, of New Lowell, Ont.

Highway 26 remains closed at Strongville Road while members trained in collision reconstruction measure and document the scene.

The Highway 26 closure will remain in place for several hours while police investigate to determine the cause of the collision.
