TINY TOWNSHIP - Members of the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were dispatched at 8:52 p.m. on Oct. 22, 2017 to a single motor vehicle on Simcoe County Road 6 between the 14th and 15th Concession Roads of Tiny Township.

Attending Officers were assisted by members of the Tiny Township Fire and Emergency Services and County of Simcoe Paramedic Services along with Technical Traffic Collision Investigators from OPP Central Region Headquarters in Orillia.

Initial scene investigation reveals that a 2012 Dodge Charger was north bound on Simcoe County Road 6 when it left the roadway entering the curve at that location.

Sadly, the lone occupant, 50-year-old Murray Murtagh of Etobicoke, passed away at Georgian Bay General Hospital in Midland as a result of injuries sustained in the crash.

Investigation into the cause of the crash is still under investigation as a post mortem will be conducted at a future date at Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre, Barrie. Investigators are citing vehicle speed and the lack seat belt use as contributing factors.

Police remind motorists that an essential part of the enforcement job is to save lives and reduce injuries on our roadways. Educating the public about safe driving practices is a priority.
