Entering wrong address leads to drug, firearm charges (4 photos)

Barrie police responded to suspicious activity at a Wellington Street East home on Saturday night

City police arrested two men over the weekend and were able to get a gun off the streets.

On Saturday, just before 8:15 p.m., Barrie police responded to a suspicious incident that involved an unknown male attending a Wellington Street East home in what appears to have been a case of going to the wrong address.

Police located the vehicle and, through the investigation that followed, determined that the passenger was failing to comply with a court order.

While attempting to arrest the 26-year-old Wasaga Beach resident, police say a struggle ensued and the male allegedly attempted to access a pouch he was wearing around his waist.

After the arrest, police say they located a fully loaded firearm in the pouch and a quantity of suspected fentanyl and cocaine in the car.

The driver, whom police identified as a 49-year-old Wasaga Beach man, was arrested and both the males were transported to Barrie Police Headquarters where the investigation continued.

The 26-year-old man has been charged with firearm, drug possession and trafficking related offences and several breaches and was remanded into custody pending a future court date.

The 49-year-old man has been charged with drug possession and trafficking offences and is scheduled to appear in a Barrie court on March 21.
