Employee helps OPP arrest man for fraud at area car dealership

Alberta man facing multiple charges including identity theft, fraud, possession of stolen documents

The Orillia Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have arrested a male in relation to a fraud at a car dealership in the City of Orillia.

On Aug. 28, 2019 the Orillia OPP were notified by an employee of a suspected fraud. Police responded and conducted an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the initial call for service. Through the investigation police were able to arrest 66-year-old Hector Caron of McLennon, Alberta for fraud.

The Orillia OPP Crime Unit were called to assist with the investigation. As the result of a thorough investigation police charged the accused with:

  • Personation with intent contrary to Section 403(1)(b) of the Criminal Code.
  • Fraud over $5,000 contrary to Section 380(1)(a) of the Criminal Code.
  • Three counts of identity theft contrary to Section 402.2(1) of the Criminal Code.
  • Two counts of possession of identity documents Contrary to Section 56.1 of the Criminal Code.
  • Use of credit card contrary to Section 342(1)(c) of the Criminal Code.
  • False pretence over $5,000 contrary to Section 362(1)(a) of the Criminal Code.

The accused was held in custody where he was later released on a recognizance of bail. The next court date for this matter is scheduled for Oct. 1, 2019 at the Ontario Court of Justice in Orillia.
