Driver who fled collision scene had twice the legal limit of alcohol: Police

Police say vehicle rear-ended another vehicle, left the scene and was later located by the victim in a nearby parking lot

BRADFORD - On Sunday, Jan. 12, 2020 around 12 p.m., South Simcoe Police Service officers responded to a two-vehicle collision on Holland Street West in Bradford.

A vehicle rear-ended another vehicle, left the scene and was later located by the victim in a nearby parking lot. Police arrived and arrested the driver that fled for impaired driving. He was transported to South Division where breath tests resulted in readings of double the legal limit.

A 26-year-old Bradford man was charged with:
    •    Operation while impaired
    •    Over 80
    •    Careless driving
    •    Novice driver - BAC above zero
    •    Class G1 licence holder unaccompanied by qualified driver
    •    Fail to surrender permit
    •    Fail to surrender licence
    •    Drive motor vehicle, no validation on plate

The man's licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle impounded for seven days.

INNISFIL - A 48-year-old Barrie man is facing several charges including over 80 and speeding.

On Sunday, Jan. 12, 2020 around 2:55 p.m., a South Simcoe Police Service officer conducting speed enforcement stopped a vehicle travelling 70 km/h in a posted 50 km/h zone on Innisfil Beach Road in Innisfil. The officer detected an odour of alcohol and observed open liquor on the passenger seat. The driver was arrested and transported to North Division. Breath tests resulted in readings of over three times the legal limit.

A 48-year-old Barrie man was charged with:
    •    Operation while impaired
    •    Over 80
    •    Drive while under suspension
    •    Speeding 70 km/h in a posted 50 km/h zone
    •    Driving motor vehicle with open container for liquor

His licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle impounded for seven days.

INNISFIL - A 28-year-old Innisfil man was charged with over 80 after police investigated a vehicle with a burned out headlight.

On Saturday, Jan. 11, 2020 around 9 a.m., a South Simcoe Police Service officer saw a vehicle with a burned out headlight parked along a curb in the 6th Line and St. Johns Road area of Innisfil. The driver was slumped against the window. Once awakened, the driver was arrested after failing a roadside screening device test. He was transported to North Division where breath tests resulted in readings of over twice the legal limit. A 28-year-old Innisfil man was charged with over 80.

The man's licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle impounded for seven days.

Three impaired driving occurrences - one also involving speeding - in addition to two stunt driving incidents makes for discouraging statistics.
