One person was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries following a multi-vehicle crash in the city's south end, Thursday afternoon.

Barrie police responded to Mapleview Drive West and Reid Drive at 1:20 p.m., on Thursday, May 19.

From the investigation that followed by members of the Barrie police traffic unit, officers determined that a black Jeep Wrangler was travelling eastbound in the westbound lanes of Mapleview Drive West when it struck a vehicle that was turning northbound onto Reid Drive.

Police say the Jeep then continued at a "high rate of speed" on the north side of the road where it struck two trees, passed through a parking lot and eventually struck an office building located at 204 Mapleview Dr. W.

Police needed to closed the westbound curb lane of Mapleview Drive West until shortly after 5 p.m., in order to safely carry out the investigation.

The driver of the Jeep was transported to a local hospital and was treated for non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the other motor vehicle involved and an occupant in that car were not injured.

The crash remains under investigation and police are requesting the assistance of anyone who may have been travelling in the area and may have dash-cam video to contact the Barrie police traffic unit at 705-725-7025, ext. 2912, or by email at [email protected].
