A crash in downtown Barrie, Wednesday afternoon, sent one man to hospital with serious injuries.

The collision happened around noon on Bayfield Street near Sophia Street.

Barrie police corporate communications co-ordinator Peter Leon tells BarrieToday that the intersection could be closed for up to eight hours.

Leon said the vehicles were cleared from the scene around 3:30 p.m. after investigators reconstructed the scene.

He said the traffic control box was also damaged and needs to be repaired, "so we have closed off a large portion of the area to do so."

Bayfield Street between Wellington and Worsley streets is closed, as is Sophia from Maple Avenue to Drury Lane.

The cause of the collision remains under investigation.
