Barrie Police continue to hold the scene as the Forensic Identification Unit and the Ontario Fire Marshal continue their investigation.

A correction to the original release: correct address is 472 Tiffin Street and business is not Triple M Metals. The site is a storage yard for construction equipment and has no connection to Triple M Metals located at 440 Tiffin Street.

11 a.m. original release

Barrie Police officers attended an active fire located on the grounds of a Barrie business and once on scene found multiple pieces of heavy equipment had been tampered with.

On Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2017 at 11:40 a.m. officers attended the grounds of Triple M Metals located at 440 Tiffin Street, in the City of Barrie, after receiving a call from Barrie Fire.

Once the fire was extinguished from the Caterpillar Rock Truck, the investigation revealed evidence that the fire was a result of arson.

Further inspection of other heavy machinery in the lot proved the truck was not the only attempt. Three Rock Trucks and two Excavators had been tampered with.

Barrie Police are continuing their investigation during daylight and the Forensic Identification Unit will be on scene processing the evidence left by those responsible.
