Crash involving OPP cruiser under investigation in New Tecumseth

OPP says police vehicle was en route to call with 'lights and sirens activated' when collision occurred at Highway 89 and County Road 10

NEW TECUMSETH — No injuries were reported following a two-vehicle collision Saturday morning involving an OPP cruiser near Alliston. 

At around 9:40 a.m. on Dec. 7, Nottawasaga OPP officers, New Tecumseth firefighters and Simcoe County paramedics responded to a collision involving a passenger vehicle and a police car at the intersection of Highway 89 and County Road 10.

"The initial investigation revealed that an OPP cruiser was travelling westbound on Highway 89, approaching the intersection en route to a call for service with its lights and sirens activated," OPP stated in a release. "A passenger vehicle was travelling southbound on County Road 10 approaching the intersection at Highway 89 when the vehicles collided within the intersection."

Police say the OPP officer and driver of the passenger vehicle were both transported to hospital by paramedics as a precaution. Neither driver sustained any injuries. 

The road was closed at the intersection of Highway 89 and County Road 10 for several hours while the OPP Traffic Incident Management Enforcement (TIME) team processed the scene. The was reopened at 2 p.m.

The investigation is ongoing.
