Couple accused of stealing $50,000 worth of perfume

Investigation revealed that a former employee of the store was stealing perfume and selling the fragrances online

South Simcoe Police Service officers have charged a Toronto couple and recovered over $50,000 in stolen perfume.

Police launched an investigation on Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2019 after responding to a report of a theft of perfume from a store at Tanger Outlets on Highway 89 in Innisfil.  

On Friday, Oct. 11, 2019, the Street Crime Unit executed a search warrant at a condo in the Don Mills and Lawrence area of Toronto. Police seized 655 bottles of perfume with a retail value of $53,818. Two suspects were arrested. Investigation revealed that a former employee of the store was stealing perfume and selling the fragrances online.

A 34-year-old Toronto man was charged with:

  • Theft over $5,000
  • Possession of property obtained by crime - trafficking
  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000

A 29-year-old Toronto woman was charged with:

  • Possession of property obtained by crime - trafficking
  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000

The couple was released with future court dates. The recovered fragrances were returned to the store owner.
