Collision sends both drivers to hospital, leads to impaired charges for one

ESSA TOWNSHIP - At approximately 2 a.m on June 22, 2019, members from the Nottawasaga Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police responded to a two vehicle collision where both drivers were reported as injured.

Upon arrival, officers assisted paramedics while conducting their investigation. Only two parties were involved in the collision, both drivers. Officers identified the female driver as a party under the age of 18 who was transported to a local hospital suffering non-life threatening injuries. The male driver of the second vehicle was identified as Steven Stewart who was transported to a local hospital for precautionary reasons.

Through the course of the investigation it was determined that the second driver was impaired by alcohol.

 Steven Stewart, age 26, of Alliston, Ontario was charged with:

  • Dangerous operation - cause bodily harm
  • Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

His driver's licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle was impounded for 7 days. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Bradford in July, 2019.
