A Barrie man has been charged after an assault was reported at Park Place's L.A. Fitness on Saturday.

During the investigation, police say officers received information that there may be evidence located inside the suspect’s vehicle at the south-end business park. Erring on the side of caution, L.A. Fitness was evacuated and an area was cordoned off.

When contacted by BarrieToday, a police spokesperson refused to elaborate further as to what type of evidence was found and why it led to the building's evacuation.

Upon arrival, witnesses provided police with a description of the suspect, who was arrested a short distance away.

The investigation was completed without incident and the area was soon reopened to the public.

A 28-year-old Barrie man has been charged with assault causing bodily harm, assault, assault a peace officer, and uttering threats. The accused appeared in an Ontario Court of Justice in Barrie on Monday.
