Barrie Police received multiple calls after a car jumped the curb and struck the fence line of the OPP detachment on Rose Street, in the City of Barrie.

Witnesses contacted police after seeing the car crash and the driver bolt from the vehicle at 9:30 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 15, 2017. Barrie Police were quick on scene with K9 starting the track and OPP officers assisted with checking the area.

An open bottle of liquor was found in the vehicle which lead officers to believe the drive was impaired.

A male matching the description given by witnesses, who happened to have a key in his pocket that matched the car in the fence, was located a short distance away.  Once identified, it was determined he was the registered owner of the vehicle.

The 26-year-old Barrie man was charged with driving with blood alcohol levels over 80 mgs, impaired driving and various Highway Traffic Act offences.

He spent some time at the Barrie Police Service while sobering up and will be in court next month to answer to his charges.
