Bracebridge man facing charges after shooting incident

There were no injuries in the incident, which saw the man charged with multiple weapons offences

Bracebridge Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers responded to a complaint from a member of the public about a gun being fired at an address near Balls Drive in Bracebridge on Saturday, May 8, 2021 at 8 p.m. The complainant described that he had attended the residence and was shot at, he was not injured and was able to retreat.

Officers attended and after securing the area, located the suspect who was cooperative with police. Police arrested and charged 40 year-old James Gostick of Bracebridge, Ont. with the following:

  • Pointing a firearm CC 87
  • Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose CC 88
  • Careless use of a firearm CC 86(1)
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm CC 91(1)
  • Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000 CC 355(b)

He has been held for bail and will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge on 10 May 2021.
