The body of a snowmobiler who went missing Sunday morning has been recovered, according to provincial police.
At about 2:35 p.m. Monday afternoon, members of the OPP's underwater search and recovery unit, with assistance from the Georgian Bay Township Fire Service, located and recovered the body of the missing snowmobiler.
Police say the deceased person has been identified as a 59-year-old male from Scarborough.
The man was snowmobiling with another man from Toronto, who was driving a separate snowmobile, when they plunged into the frigid waters of Six Mile Lake near O'Leary's Island.
The man from Toronto, also 58, was rescued and is in hospital being treated for injuries sustained in the incident, police say.
A local cottager observed two people in distress at about 10:45 a.m. Sunday morning and called 911 to report the incident.
After one of the snowmobilers was rescued, the search continued for the other man until he was found this afternoon.
No other details have been released. Police say the investigation is continuing.
The OPP warns people to exercise extreme caution near any bodies of water, stressing no ice is safe ice.
