(UPDATE) 'Nothing suspicious' about body found today: OPP

Paramedics and OPP officers were at the Centennial Drive construction site Tuesday morning following a call about a deceased body. OPP have requested the public avoid the area as the investigation is carried out.

UPDATE:

Orillia OPP remain tight-lipped about a deceased body found near the Orillia waterfront Tuesday morning.

When asked this afternoon for more details, Orillia OPP Const. Brett Boniface said the body was found by a construction worker, and the coroner has begun carrying out their investigation.

Nothing appears suspicious about the death, he said.

“There's nothing at this point that's deeming it to be suspicious. The scene was released by the coroner, and we're not holding the scene (anymore),” Boniface said.

A body was found near a Centennial Drive construction site in Orillia this morning and provincial police are asking residents to avoid the area.

Ontario Provincial Police received a call at 11:30 a.m., Tuesday, said Orillia OPP Const. Brett Boniface.

The call "came in as an ambulance assist, and the person is deceased,” Boniface said. “It is an ongoing investigation, and we ask people to avoid the area.”

Boniface said the OPP will be in touch with the coroner as it carries out the investigation.

Boniface could not provide any details about the deceased person at this time.
