Barrie resident charged in Niagara on the Lake theft investigation

On July 1, 2020, 2 District – Niagara Falls uniform officers from the Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) commenced an investigation into a residential break and enter in the area of Stewart Road and Niagara Stone Road in Niagara on the Lake.

The investigation was taken over by Detectives from the 2 District Street Crime Unit. Detectives learned that on July 1, 2020 between 4 and 9 p.m., a male had attended the residence and was able to gain entry. Once inside the male stole:
    •    Jewelry
    •    Art
    •    Electronics

The investigation led detectives to a residence in the area of Sproule Drive and Kraus Road in Barrie. On July 5, 2020, detectives executed a search warrant at the home. They were able locate items in the residence linked to the Niagara on the Lake residence that had been broken into. A male was located in the residence and arrested.

Ari Hawla (23 years) of Barrie has been arrested and has been charged with the alleged criminal offences of:
    •    Break and enter commit theft over $5,000
    •    Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000

Hawla was held in custody in order to attend a video bail hearing at the Robert S. K. Welch Courthouse in St. Catharines on July 6, 2020.
