City police identify suspect after Ross St. door kicked in (update)

'Some people even provided the location he would likely be in and, sure enough, he was standing there when police drove up,' says official

UPDATE:

Information from the public has led to the arrest of a Barrie man wanted in connection to a door being kicked in at a Ross Street home on April 9.

A 30-year-old man has been charged with mischief under $5,000.

A surveillance camera captured images of a suspect inside the rooming house.

Barrie police communication co-ordinator Peter Leon told BarrieToday it was information from the public that helped officers locate the suspect.

“Police received a tip that assisted in identifying the suspect, as well as getting several more tips from members of the public,” Leon said Thursday afternoon. “Some people even provided the location he would likely be in and, sure enough, he was standing there when police drove up.”

The accused will appear in court at a future date.

ORIGINAL STORY:

A man who kicked in a door at a Ross Street home is being sought by Barrie police.

On April 9 at about 1 p.m., a surveillance camera caught the images of a man who had damaged the front door of a Ross Street rooming house and then briefly hung out inside.

Barrie police communications co-ordinator Peter Leon told BarrieToday the location of the camera is inside the house and it was the front door that was kicked open.

“Once open, another male let the suspect into the rooming house, not knowing who he was,” said Leon. “Nothing was stolen, but there was $200 in damage to the door frame.”
